Clytemnestra

Back in my Greek retelling mood era with Clytemnestra by Constanta Casati.

A debut novel for Casati, Clytemnestra follows a legendary queen, born to King Tyndareus and Queen Leda, Sister of Helen and married to the tyrant Agamemnon with narration on the brutal and fierce story of the rise to Clytemnestra’s power as she seeks revenge for those who have been lost to her whilst navigating her relationships with siblings, lovers and children. Starting with her time as princess of Sparta, her relationship with her first husband and the tragic events that lead to her marrying Agamemnon.

Clytemnestra is one hell of a tough badass. You root for her the entire journey. With Casati’s writing I felt as I was also grieving with Clytemnestra, I felt her loves and her losses, her anger and pain. I wanted revenge for her.

During our time with Clytemnestra we also meet prominent figures within Greek mythology,
Helen (of Troy), Odyessus, are amount many figures and the author does a wonderful job placing us within the world.

If you enjoyed Madeline Millers Circe, then you will enjoy this!
